PROJECT 1: MEDICAL DEVICE COVERS AND USER INTERFACES
Led the design and development of the machine covers and user interface devices for the Varian Medical Systems Halcyon™ cancer treatment delivery system.
PROJECT 2: INDYCAR FRONT FLAP ASSEMBLY
Designed the 2016 Honda IndyCar front flap assembly. 3D printed multiple iterations of the flap adjuster handle to optimize for ease of use while minimizing size.
PROJECT 3: 360 DEGREE 2-DOF MOTION SIMULATOR
Designed a 360 degree, 2 degree of freedom motion simulator for roller coasters, aircraft, space ships, and race cars. Designed and built multiple proof of concept small prototypes to test the control system and full size design components and features. Control system and full size design currently under development.
PROJECT 4: "MAN'S BEST LEASH"
Designed the auto-locking ball grip for an ultrahigh-end dog leash. Performed engineering review including design for manufacturability and tolerance analyses on all leash components, and updated design to improve manufacturability and part fitment. Performed FEA and updated design to increase strength without compromising other design requirements. Created detailed engineering drawings for all components including GD&T as necessary.
PROJECT 5: LAND SPEED CAR BODY
Designed all external surfaces of a land speed car using OpenFOAM (CFD) to minimize drag and maintain a small amount of downforce. Currently being built by client and planned to run in 2020.
PROJECT 6: FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS PROJECTS
Countless FEA projects, most of which cannot be shown for NDA related reasons. FEA is a standard part of the design process for just about every project.
PROJECT 7: BATTERY BUDDY
Designed a product for charging AA and AAA batteries. The product provides 4 charging stations, and a 5th station that holds a fully charged battery that is easy to remove. Discharged batteries are dropped in the top hole. Built a proof of concept prototype to verify product feasability.
PROJECT 8: SWITCH BOX GAME CONTROLLER
Designed and built a switch box game controller for flight simulation PC software, which can be used to actuate aircraft systems like landing gear and flaps. 2 and 3 position toggle switches, 3 position momentary switches, and momentary push buttons provide 30 buttons that can be mapped to any PC game.
PROJECT 9: 3-DOF MOTION SIMULATOR
Designed a 3 degree of freedom race car motion simulator. Used SOLIDWORKS Motion Analysis to determine motor requirements and for dynamic stress analysis.
PROJECT 10: SURFACE MODELING PROJECTS
Designed and printed additional surface modeling projects, including F/A-18 Hornet and Yin Yang symbol.
MISCELLANEOUS ADDITIONAL PROJECTS
Mechanical design and engineering is a way of life and there are too many projects to fully detail. Some include a concept design for a fixed-wing quadcopter, various FEA validation studies, a strain wave (harmonic drive) gearset, and children's toys like rockets, airplanes, and race cars.
